Greening the future

The Environmental Cell at the university, with a strength of 50 students, showcases activities like Jugaad, where students recycle waste materials into usable items, thus saving the environment the agony of enduring an enormous amount of waste. This cell organizes many events in tandem with the Science Club. It was in 2020 that the Environmental Cell was constituted, and it has hosted events like the ‘Say No to Plastic’ Campaign, set up herbal gardens and vermicomposting facilities, teamed up with NSS volunteers in some of these tasks, and promoted awareness campaigns in and around the university among the communities outside. As part of the awareness campaign to say no to plastic, students donated about 150 cloth bags made from discarded materials to the inhabitants around Rajanukunte. Some of the activities undertaken by the Environmental Cell are: inviting experts from the field to spread environmental awareness based on their work on the ground; making the environment green; avoiding the use of chemicals; replacing them with biodegradable materials; and ensuring that effluents are not let into the water bodies.

An innovative endeavor was to issue seed flags to all faculty and students during the Independence Day celebrations of 2022 so that they get transformed into plants rather than end up elsewhere.
